cookie monster

by me

After being cooped up in the house for 3 days..not much more has to be said about the picture
Today however, there was school. I walked 40 minutes to work, since my car is (STILL) stuck in the snow! When I got to school I was greeted by one (cranky) student! Now I know how it feels to tutor. It wasn't so bad  actually, I gave her many sheets and we played some games. The principal rewarded the teachers and students that showed up with popcorn and a knapsack! Then I walked home...the end.
I got to run to college now, another half hour trek. AHHHH!
STAY SAFE,
LK

snow

Yes! the first big snowfall of the winter is due to arrive today. I hope it snows soooo high that i don't have to go to teach or college for the next few day!!! (I hope my students don't read this).  I'm sure you all noticed by now, the pathetic new trend of wear furry hats like we all walked out of Czarist Russia:) I was in a food place last week and a grown guy in dire need of attention walked in wearing that style hat but with elephant ears nose and all(sad. To each there own..but they do look cozy. This image was taken from a Blog called The Sartorialist. The Blog is made up of photographers that take pictures of fashionable people on the street. It is always a great source of instant inspiration.
*I hope everyone stays warm and safe on the snowy day and I hope to receive  comments  from all my readers (a girl may dream ...21 comments!!)
ps. If my sisters out of the country are feeling left out, it snowed a lot on har hermon I believe ;)
Take care folks,
And you can all thanks Erica that i'm posting she kindly requested an update. So mid 9 page term paper at 3 a.m. I added this in.

zico ads

For my photoshop class in college we need to make a series of three ads for a health drink called ZICO. The whole idea seemed pretty boring until decided to make it more "me." I added in my own drawing that were colored on photoshop. Then i used backgrounds from my most recent trip to Israel. Thanks shif, you took the first picture at the zoo(I digitally took myself out)And the last two are from Carsarea.
I hope i do well.
Take care,

play time

I'm sitting in Photoshop class, I should be making a boring Zico ad, But I'm having fun on Illustrator making this cute (i think) Chanukah pic. I hope he doesn't fail me...!
Oh! and before this, I went to the candy shop and got nuts and a cappuccino(with splenda of course)
yum!

what she ate today

I'm on health fitness program recommended by my sister ,Chaya. This is how it goes, no sugar, no white flour and no potatoes. Eat whole wheat only, high protein, low fat. Trick: eat a big breakfast then you feel good and don't have to eat as much the rest of the day. Also you  need to work out!!
(Last night I danced for 2 hours!!)
So far this is my second day on it and I didn't cheat even once. Yes, I turned down the donuts in school today!
My lunch today was 12 grain toasted bread with nonfat cottage cheese. Topped with blueberries and banana slices. On the side was apple slices, and more blueberries. Mmmmm..oh and you can have a half a cup of orange juice.
One person I spoke to on this diet lost 26 lbs, another 30lbs..
I don't need to go that far, just want to be healthy.
good luck on that,
ps. yes the pictures were taken on digital macro mode set for florescent lighting.
Feel good,

D&G Spring 2011

I'm really excited that D&G re-introduced floral prints and bandanas into their spring 2011 collection.
And of course I LOVE the huge shades!!
Their entire Spring 2011 collection is really cheerful;
tuns of color, big prints and girly ,girly dresses.
Plus their runway was absolutely adorable! the models walked down a makeshift garden.
(some even carrying gardening tools)
ahhhh the smell of spring!!
This was so fun to draw using my tablet!
And no! I will wear this dress..;)
just wanted to use this pic cuz it had the floral print, bandana and shades all in one.
ps.i don't know if you can tell but i built up the model's dress with the patch tool on photoshop..if only it was that easy in real life!
have a cheerful week,

everyone needs a little bit of chill

Tonight i picked up my friend from college at about 10 p.m. We then went to a cafe for supper. When we got there we realized they only took ca$h. So we went to the bank got some $ and headed back. Then we both ordered yummy hot chocolates with a chocolate bar and whipped cream. Then I got a caesar salad for supper and we shared a fries. We took a hot chocolate soufflé with 2 scoops of ice cream to go, that we ate in the car. We ate, laughed and had a nice chilling chill.
When i got home i texted her:
"10 lbs heavier, 10 lbs happier"
she responded:
"worth the wait, worth the weight"
aren't we funny :)
now back to work...
ps.These pictures are from this cool, smooth little blog I just chanced upon called Paris vs New York

one phone call away...

                                                the song

Q: What's this music video doing on my blog?
A:Last night, my friend Westy sent me link to a very talented photographer's website by the name of, Rochel Fellig. I have here some of her stunning photos. But anyway back to the answer, playing in the background was this song. I felt like this song was heaven sent , just when I needed it . I've listened to it probably 10 times + since 12 a.m. last night. I have here the karaoke version with the lyrics so you can catch the words.
*In short the song's meaning is that :"we're all one phone call from our knees" - we never know what info we'll hear that will make us fall down in shock. But all these challenges just bring us "closer to love"- eventually we'll see it was all for our good and we'll ended up benefiting from the challenge. And end up happier!
(Now you know why I liked the song so much ;))
and ps. he's an artist too..in music, I mean.
Stay warm and cozy,

the key to my heart

How can i go with out mentioning a new and very popular trend, the tiffany key pendant! I got mine last year as a gift from someone I drove home from college. I never thought much of it until this year when I saw many people wearing it, and I'm like "hey it's cute"! And now I love it!
Funny Story: I went to my friend's house wearing it and her mom freaked out. She was like what are you wearing?! I told her "a key necklace." She told me her aunt wears the key to her late father's grave around her neck, and that's what it reminded her of.(ODD)
ps. I painted that key last year. Had nothing to do with a necklace, was just a key. And now I got to use it for my post YAY!
pps. Westy has the 3rd key If I recall correctly.
ppps. no one has the key to heart yet..lol
take care,

paint the town PINK

On Wednesday I didn't feel very well. My throat hurt, my chest hurt and I pretty much felt sick. sick. sick. So I did what I used to as a little girl when I felt under the weather.I got into cozy pj's ,made myself a hot chocolate and took out my art materials. Then I sat there for the next while, relaxing over my paints and brushes. The best part was that I didn't prepare a word for teaching YA! I stayed home on thursday and went to the Dr. for a throat culture. Thank G-d it was negative.I guess I'll stay on tea and advil till I feel better. This picture was done with watercolor and gauche. I copied the model from a mag. I left out the bike (too complicating to draw) and added a bubble gum pink back ground.
These photos are unedited, unphotoshoped, raw from the camera
Hope you like it!

DANNIJO

Obsession Update: I've been looking for a new statement necklace for a while now, but haven't found anything too "wow!". Today while surfing some fashion blogs I stumbled across DANNIJO. This line was started in 2008 by two, 20-something year old sisters, Danielle and Jodi Snyder. They started their business in a small studio with little investment. However, their big determination and amazing talents payed off. Now,their jewelry is worn by many celebrities, in the press and sold in over 60 stores nation wide, including Bergdorf Goodman. I absolutely looove!! their pieces. They claim it's well priced, but I beg to differ! For now I will just admire their lovely pieces (and start saving).
Q:would you wear it? ,tell me what you think!
HAVE A SPARKLY DAY!!

go green

Go green..literally!
Body Cleanses are becoming the hottest trend in 21st century health and beauty. I read up a bit about body cleanses and this is the info I got: Body cleanses should be for a minimum of 3 days.
Cleanse your body of all artificial ingredients, toxins, salts and sugars. Eat only fruits, greens and drink a lot of H20!
You should see a change in you skin, hair, eyes and weight!
When you get back to eating normal, eat foods high in fiber and low fat proteins.
It sounds really nice...
After i just ate a slice for lunch and chocolate ice cream for dessert;)
ps. these napkins were  just plain white napkins. In my photoshop class we learnt how to put an image on a material and make it look like that's how it came. It's called "displacement map." The drawing was done on my tablet.
I'm getting back in touch with my creative side.
Didn't do a stitch of work since I got home from work
 yaaaaaa:)))
AND I'M PROUD OF IT!!
Stay healthy,
lk

color me pretty

On Friday I ran into the pharmacy to pick up some stuff. Right when i entered I saw a something that was made for me. It was a set of 120 eyeshadows in this pretty sleek black case with a big built in mirror! It was not much of an investment,so i bought it without a clue on the quality. When i got home, to my surprise, the shadows were rich in pigment and looked great! On Friday I tried a gold, copper and pink combo and tonight for fun a blue, purple and pink smokey eye look. I love painting and make-up so for me this is heaven. The above pics were taken by me using my humble canon power shot SD790 IS on "digital macro" mode. And of course edited on photoshop.
ps.I'm thinking who's birthday is coming up cuz it's a great, fun, gift.
Have a fun and colorful week,
LK

GUCCI saved the DAY

Hey, peoples! Yes I'm still around thank G-d..:) I have been very very busy the past while, preparing for teaching and the like. Yesterday I was on the verge of burnout. I then realized that's is as important for me to draw, as is air to others... I was giving up on my art for preparing and stuff.. BAD IDEA! So yesterday after teaching i went home and watched the latest spring 2011 fashion runways on style.com. Gucci's runway stole the show. This pencil drawing is of Gucci's present winter collection on Gucci.com. I loved the colors, hats and of course the SUNGLASSES!! I will try to be good and post more religiously! Thanks everyone for telling me how much you missed my posts! And I'd like to personally welcome 2 new followers on paislies "hi!"
HAVE A GREAT WEEK EVERYONE!!! TGIAF (thank goodness its almost Friday)

something smells nice

I should be preparing for teaching and so i can get a normal nights rest. But since forever I wanted to draw perfume bottles using my tablet. It was so fun.. I think I'll quit my highly stimulating day job and do this for a living . (Ma..I AM JUST KIDDING!! LOL) Well hope you enjoy. If you want a cute wall paper, simply drag a perfume bottle onto your desktop. Next, set it as background> use tile mode and Voila! how pretty! have a great night!

winter looks

As a child I used to go on hiking trips with my family to New Hampshire, Lake Placid...When I saw the winter collection this season these cozy memories at the fire place and hiking through rustic trails came back to me. I love the contrast of these natural hues and fabrics against our modern day tech world. It creates a much needed balance. No kids, we don't come from robots!lol. These pics were all taken from the internet and compiled on Photoshop. The top is Zara, I loved their collection this season. I went into their Madison Ave.(I think) store and I was taken by the colors, textures and mood..they really nailed the look. Next are illustrations inspired by fashion by a wonderful artist,Cecile Mancion. On the bottom are three looks from Marc by Marc Jacobs runway I wish I could have embedded the video but i couldn't so here's a link, watch it, it's really neat(as usual!) and I love the music!
Enjoy and have a warm ,wonderful ,and cozy winter,

hey teacher!

Yes folks, the rumors are true..I AM OFFICIALLY A TEACHER!! I am as shocked as you all are. I saw a Teaching job availability in the "help wanted" section of a paper at my grandma's house. Having nothing to lose I called to inquire...And I was hired over the phone! "How about you come in and try it out" said the secretary. And that exactly what I did and It is about a week later and I'm still there. That pic was drawn by Norman Rockwell (so no, it's not me)!
Teaching and preparing is quiet draining especially on little sleep.I think I'll go take a nap before class starts in an hour.
ps. It's been a while since I last posted that I almost forgot the password!
SO LONG...

just tackle it.

Hi everyone. hope you had a nice weekend. Here's the story...I was making a scrapbook way back in July for my sis and her husband as a "thank you" for hosting me in Israel. My attic room was my work place and it turned in a HUGE scrapbook heaven a.k.a. mess, covered in papers, photos, ribbons, stickers...and stuffs!! When the scrapbook was completed ,I closed the door to the wreck and tried to forget about it. However, it kept creeping up onto my to-do list every time I wanted a big, quiet place to work in. So last week I braved myself and headed upstairs bracing my self for the hardest job ever. But like all large tasks once you tackle it you realize it's not all that hard. After some time I was able to see the floor..and after some more time the table. I later organized the scrapbook stuff put them on a empty bookshelf.I then brought up some art stuff and since then have been taking advantage of this nice ,clean ,work space.
Lesson learnt: Things in life look scarier then they really are; once you tackle it you realize it's really not that hard!
Here are pics of the cleaned up space and a poster I drew after "operation clean up" which is hanging on the back of my door.
Have a successful week!
xoxo laura k
